Crotcheting is a small shop that does exactly one thing: written crochet patterns for soft, round, slightly kawaii little animals. No kits, no finished toys, no yarn — just the instructions, as a PDF you download and keep. That narrowness is deliberate. Because we're not trying to be a general craft shop, we can spend an unreasonable amount of time on the part that actually matters — whether the pattern works when someone who has never made one before sits down with it on a Tuesday evening.

How a pattern gets written here
It starts with a shape. Before a single round is written, we work out how the whole thing is built — where the body becomes the head, whether the legs can be worked in one piece, how few separate parts we can get away with. Fewer pieces means less sewing, and sewing is where most people's first attempt goes wrong. Then the counting. Every round is written out in full and worked through by hand, then worked again, because an increase in the wrong place doesn't announce itself for another six rounds — by which point you've no idea where it went wrong and it feels like your fault. Then the photographs. Not one hero shot, but pictures of the awkward moments: the ear before it's attached, the muzzle mid-shaping, the face before and after the eyes go in. If we couldn't tell what was happening from the text alone while testing, that's exactly where a photo goes. We aim for three to five pieces to sew, and around 14cm finished. Small enough for one sitting, sturdy enough to be carried around by a child afterwards.
Why everything is plush
Our patterns are written for chenille yarn on a 4mm hook, and that's not an aesthetic preference so much as a kindness. Chenille is forgiving — it hides uneven tension, closes up the gaps that let stuffing peek through, and works up quickly enough that you finish before you lose interest. It also produces something velvety rather than stiff, which is the whole point of making a soft toy. You can use any yarn you like and the pattern still works; you'll just get a smaller, firmer friend.
In four languages, properly
Every pattern includes English version, and some have French, Spanish and German too — all four, in every purchase, at no extra charge. Translated as real documents rather than pushed through a machine, because a mistranslated stitch instruction is worse than no translation at all. They're written in US crochet terms throughout, so single crochet means single crochet no matter which file you open.

Sometimes it will be. We test everything, but we're small, and errors get through. When you tell us, we don't send you a template reply. We check the round, fix the file, upload the corrected version, and let everyone who bought that pattern know. You keep the new version for free, the way you keep every update. If you're stuck and not sure whether it's the pattern or you, write to us anyway. We'd genuinely rather look at a photo of a lopsided half-made rabbit than have you put it in a drawer. It's usually the pattern. And when it isn't, we'll tell you kindly which round to go back to.
