Penny is beginner-friendly, with one slightly more grown-up moment: the chain-bridge join that turns two little paws into her base. It's written out step by step, and once it's behind you the rest is calm spiral rounds — 21 of them in bulky chenille, so she grows quickly.

She's one continuous piece, worked bottom-up from those paws. The arms are crocheted straight into the body just above the stripe, so there's very little assembly waiting at the end: four pieces to sew on, being two ears, the snout, and the curly tail. The apple is optional.
