Rocco is a handsome little rooster in warm rust and dark brown, with a tall red comb of four graduated peaks, a bright yellow beak, a red wattle and a ruffly teal collar around his neck. Four teal-and-forest tail feathers fan out behind him, and a small yellow star sits on his belly. All those autumn colours in soft chenille are a joy to work 🧶

Do not let the comb worry you — it is one simple chained piece, and the whole bird is beginner-friendly. The head and body are one continuous top-down piece, the green collar is worked into front loops as you pass and finished with a picot ruffle afterwards, and the wings are crochet-joined into a body round. The tail feathers and feet are slip-stitched on. Only three pieces are truly sewn — the comb, beak and wattle — plus the optional star.
