Meet Pip — a round little penguin in soft black chenille, with a white face-and-belly front, a small orange beak, orange flipper feet and a blue fish tucked between his wings. Black safety eyes and an optional chalk blush give him a sleepy, contented face. He stands about 14 cm (5.5 in) tall and 12 cm (4.7 in) wide at his widest, worked in chenille bulky on a 4.0 mm hook.

The stitches stay simple all the way through — single crochet, increases, invisible decreases, magic ring and chain, nothing more. Every round has its stitch count in brackets, and the notes cover working cleanly with chenille and keeping the capsule shape tall.

Head and body are one continuous piece from the crown down, all in black, so there's no head to attach and no mid-round colour changes to manage. Both wings and the tail are crocheted straight into body rounds. Sewn on afterwards: the white front, the beak and two feet — four pieces, with the optional fish tacked to the wing tips. 💗

Cosy, squishy and clearly explained — one round at a time. ✨
