Meet our smiling acorn — a plump little nut in soft tan, wearing a dark brown cap with two gentle ridges and a stubby stem on top. Black safety eyes, a small stitched smile, and optional pink felt cheeks give him his cheerful face. He stands about 10 cm (4 in) tall and 7.5 cm (3 in) wide, worked in worsted/medium #4 yarn with a 3.5 mm hook.
He's a lovely one to start with. Only single crochet, increases and invisible decreases — no fancy stitches anywhere. Every round is written out in full in US crochet terms with the stitch count in brackets, and there are little tips along the way for keeping your marker centred and shaping him into a smooth egg.
Best of all, there's nothing to sew. He's made in one continuous spiral — the cap is crocheted straight onto the reserved front loops of the body, and the stem grows out of the cap's closing round. The only stitching is his smile, and the cheeks if you want them. 💗

Cosy, quick and forgiving — a sweet first amigurumi. ✨
