Meet Gigi — a round little baby giraffe in mustard yellow chenille, dotted all over with dark brown spots and belted with a single brown band around her middle. Two-tone horns tilt softly above her head, shallow brown ears hang forward, and a small green leaf sits tucked between her arms. A tan muzzle and wide brown eye patches finish her sleepy kawaii face. She stands about 14 cm (5.5 in) tall, worked in chenille bulky yarn on a 4.0 mm hook.
The stitches are gentle — single crochet, increases, invisible decreases, with a little half double and double crochet in the leaf. Every round carries its stitch count in brackets, and there are notes throughout on counting in slippery chenille and making clean invisible colour changes.
Head and body are one continuous piece from the crown down. Her arms, feet and tail are all crochet-joined straight into body rounds, so no limbs need sewing. The detail pieces are stitched on afterwards: two ears, two horns, the muzzle, two eye patches, fourteen spots and the leaf. 💗
