Rusty is a chunky little toadstool in soft chenille — a deep rust-red cap dotted with eight puffy ivory spots, a crisp ivory ridge running right around its widest point, and a plump warm-beige stem with a shy V smile and blushed cheeks underneath. A gentle make from start to finish. Single crochet, increases, invisible decreases — nothing more. Both main pieces are worked in a continuous spiral from the top down, so there's no joining and no seam up the side. The offset increases are written out for you, with the plain version alongside if you'd rather keep it simple.
The cap and stem are made separately, then the cap's ivory underside is whipstitched to the stem crown — one join. The eight spots each get a pinch of stuffing as you sew them on, which is what gives them that raised puff. So it's the cap plus eight little spots to attach.
