Rusty is a chunky little toadstool in soft chenille — a deep rust-red cap dotted with eight puffy ivory spots, a crisp ivory ridge running right around its widest point, and a plump warm-beige stem with a shy V smile and blushed cheeks underneath. About 17 cm tall and 12 cm across the cap. Woodland cosiness, sitting steady on a shelf. 🧶

A gentle make from start to finish. Single crochet, increases, invisible decreases — nothing more. Both main pieces are worked in a continuous spiral from the top down, so there's no joining and no seam up the side. The offset increases are written out for you, with the plain version alongside if you'd rather keep it simple.

The cap and stem are made separately, then the cap's ivory underside is whipstitched to the stem crown — one join. The eight spots each get a pinch of stuffing as you sew them on, which is what gives them that raised puff. So it's the cap plus eight little spots to attach.

The brim ridge does all the work — one back-loop round and it appears. 💗
