Farmer Doll Crochet Pattern – Barley

Barley sits with a small ribbed pumpkin cradled in his lap and a wide straw hat tipped back over his hair, a brown band around the crown and a yellow sunflower with a sage leaf tucked at one side. Underneath he wears dusty blue overalls with a bib, a little pocket, crossed straps and two wooden buttons at the back. This one is written for confident beginners and uses only single crochet, hdc, dc, chains and slip stitches — no colour changes worked mid-round. 

Construction is modular. The head is a closed sphere sewn to the body's collar opening, the body grows bottom-up from a magic ring, and both arms crochet straight into the shoulder round so there are no arm seams. The legs, hat, bib, pocket, straps, hair, sunflower and pumpkin are all made separately and attached — a moderate amount of sewing, all of it flat and straightforward.
